Friends of the Intermountain Libraries (FOIL) is a 501c3 non profit whose function is to support the Burney Branch Library.
A brief history of FOIL:
FOIL is a 501c3 non profit whose function is to support the Burney Library.
In 1988-89, due a financial crisis, all 14 Shasta County library locations were closed. Three libraries were able to re-open (Redding, Anderson, and Burney). Burney is an unincorporated area with no additional tax base to support the library. The Eastern Shasta Library Committee (later Friends of the Intermountain Libraries, Inc.) agreed to pay part of the operating expense in order to keep the Burney Library open.
FOIL has continued to contribute to operating expenses and materials for the Burney Library through the years. In 2006 the Redding City Council voted to accept ownership of the Redding Library and its branches (Anderson and Burney) and hired LSSI, LLC (Library Systems and Services) to manage the entire library system.
In 2009 FOIL made expansion and relocation of the Burney Branch Library a priority. The dedicated and hard work of the board and members of FOIL, Inc. helped to make the new Burney Branch Library site a reality in 2020.
FOIL continues its work to this day, providing materials and resources for the Burney Library.
